Program Goals

The SonoSchool is the first Emergency Ultrasound School in the Middle East. Established in 2016; it has grown in number and capacity to be the leading center for Ultrasound education in the region. SonoSchool aims to give an efficient and reliable bedside Ultrasound education that would aid a healthcare provider’s clinical practice. The Academy of Sciences is proud to partner with SonoSchools to be the only recognized body in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf to represent their courses.

Sonoschool aims to achieve the following:

  • To identify clinical scenarios characterized by clinical and environmental constraints, where Ultrasound, when implemented and incorporated into patient point-of-care (“point-of-care Ultrasound”), represents a critical added value (“critical Ultrasound”) in order to improve management, performance and outcome.
  • To identify Ultrasound applications within extra-hospital and in-hospital scenarios, consistent with prevention, triage, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the patients, from primary assessment and stabilization to definitive treatment and “follow up”.

Course Objectives

In this course, the providers will learn how to use Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) to diagnose the most important problems seen in the acute care setting. This course is ideal for both novices in POCUS as well as those who want to brush up on their knowledge and skills in ultrasonography.

Upon successful completion of the POCUS course, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the Physics and Fundamentals of Ultrasonography
  • Perform Ultrasound guided Nerve Block
  • Perform Ultrasound guided Vascular access
  • Perform Systemic Ultrasound
  • Perform FAST

Sono School Format

This is a 3-day course where both theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions will be conducted. In the practical sessions, the participants will be divided into groups where they will perform POCUS and will be evaluated on their performance. At the end of each day there will be a segment called “SonoGames” where the participants will get to implement what they learned in a healthy competition. On the last day there will be both a written and practical evaluation.

The topics covered in the course include:

  • Physics of Ultrasound
  • Lung Ultrasound
  • Cardiac Axes
  • Fluid resuscitation with Ultrasound
  • E-FAST
  • Hepatobiliary Ultrasound
  • Renal Ultrasound
  • Aorta/IVC Ultrasound
  • DVT Ultrasound
  • Bowel/ Appendicitis Ultrasound
  • Airway and Ocular Ultrasound

Target Audience/Requirements

This course is designed to be accessible to a wide variety of healthcare providers. These include:

  • Emergency Physicians
  • General Practitioners
  • Interns
  • Radiology/ Ultrasound Technicians
  • Residents
  • Medical Students
  • Any Physician with an interest in Ultrasonography

Upon completion of the course, the attendee will receive a certificate of completion as well as CME hours.

To receive a provider certificate, the attendee must fill out a log book after the course with specific tasks and upload the images on the website for evaluation.
